YouTube Music is a new music video streaming service developed by YouTube, an internet-based division of Google. It gives a personalized, tailored interface to the service based towards music viewing, enabling users to search through music videos and songs on YouTube according to categories, playlists, and popularity. This innovative application uses information provided by the user in order to suggest videos that may be of interest based on what the user is searching for. This may include artist or song name, album or artist, or any other category the user may have in mind. Users can also search for specific types of music such as jazz, hip hop, R&B, or pop among others. The service also offers free music videos that the user can access for a limited time period in which the viewer can also rate and comment on the video.
Users can also find music videos that are related to a particular keyword. For example, if the keyword “music videos” is entered, YouTube will offer videos pertaining to music videos of artists such as Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Akon, Miley Cyrus, and more. The videos can also be sorted by latest and categorized. In addition, some YouTube Music functions integrate with social networking sites such as Facebook, Google+ and Twitter so that fans of a specific artist or song can interact with each other.
With the introduction of this innovative new music video streaming service, YouTube also introduces two new subscription services. The first is YouTube Premium, which has a monthly subscription fee and requires users to become premium members in order to stream music on YouTube. The subscription service costs $2.99 per month and includes all current and past videos uploaded on YouTube. The second is called YouTube First, which is similar to YouTube Premium with a one time payment of $1.50. The subscriber does not need to become a premium member to use YouTube First.
